Resumo: Devido à sua localização, a cidade de Marília, SP, encontra-se em uma região importante para o abastecimento hídrico do oeste paulista, e sua área urbana avança sobre as nascentes, sendo necessário preservar as forestas ciliares já degradadas e fragmentadas. Assim, o objetivo foi analisar temporalmente a paisagem nas regiões de interesse hídrico, com vistas a avaliar o potencial de conservação dos fragmentos florestais responsáveis por este recurso. Foi realizada uma análise temporal nos anos 1989, 1999, 2009 e 2019, a partir de imagens dos satélites Landsat 5, 7 e 8, com 30 m de resolução espacial. No programa ArcMap 10.3, o uso do solo foi agrupado em seis classes: formação florestal, planto florestal, formação natural não florestal, agricultura, áreas não vegetadas e água. Para todo o município, foram calculadas as métricas de paisagem CA (cobertura da terra) e PLAND (proporção de cobertura da terra) para as seis classes de uso do solo. Foi realizada uma análise da cobertura florestal a partir de um buffer de 5 km no entorno da área urbana, sendo calculadas mais cinco métricas de área, borda e forma. O software Patich Analyst versão 5.2.0.16 foi utilizado para o cálculo das métricas de paisagem. As classes que mais se destacaram em tamanho de área foram agricultura (93.962,07 ha; 80,27%), formação florestal (15.682,97 ha; 13,40%) e áreas não vegetadas (5.220,63 ha; 4,46%). Os maiores aumentos proporcionais foram de planto florestal (0,11 para 1,27 ha), água (0,02 para 0,05 ha) e áreas não vegetadas (2,17 para 4,45 ha), enquanto a agricultura perdeu área (85,73 para 80,27 ha). Houve aumento das áreas forestadas nos últimos 30 anos a partir do surgimento de fragmentos pequenos e morfologicamente frágeis; além disso, com o aumento da área urbana, aumentam-se os conflitos com os remanescentes florestais mais próximos.

Abstract: Due to its locaton, the city of Marília, S P, is located in an important region for water supply in the west of São Paulo, and its urban area advances over the springs, making it necessary to preserve the already degraded and fragmented riparian forests. Thus, the objective was to temporally analyze the landscape in regions of water interest, in order to assess the potential for conservaton of the forest fragments responsible for this resource. A temporal analysis was carried out in the years 1989, 1999, 2009, and 2019, using images from the Landsat 5, 7 and 8 satellites, with 30 m of spatal resoluton. In the ArcMap 10.3 program, land use was grouped into six classes: forest formation, forest plantaton, natural non-forest formation, agriculture, non-vegetated areas, and water. For the entre municipality, landscape metrics CA (land cover) and PLAND (proporton of land cover) were calculated for the six land use classes. An analysis of the forest cover was carried out from a 5 km bufer around the urban area, and five more metrics of area, edge, and shape were calculated. Patich Analyst software version 5.2.0.16 was used to calculate landscape metrics. The classes that most stood out in terms of area size were agriculture (93,962.07 ha; 80.27%), forest formation (15,682.97 ha; 13.40%), and non-vegetated areas (5,220.63 ha; 4.46 %). The largest proportonal increases were in forest planting (0.11 to 1.27 ha), water (0.02 to 0.05 ha), and non-vegetated areas (2.17 to 4.45 ha), while agriculture lost area (85.73 to 80.27 ha). There has been an increase in forested areas in the last 30 years from the appearance of small and morphologically fragile fragments; in additon, with the increase in urban area, conflicts with the nearest forest remnants increase.

Resumen: Por su localización, la ciudad de Marília, SP, se ubica en una región importante para el abastecimiento de agua en el oeste de São Paulo, y su área urbana avanza sobre los manantales, por lo que es necesario preservar los bosques de ribera ya degradados y fragmentados. Así, el objetivo fue analizar temporalmente el paisaje en regiones de interés hídrico, con el fin de evaluar el potencial de conservación de los fragmentos de bosque responsables de este recurso. El análisis temporal se realizó en los años 1989, 1999, 2009 y 2019, utilizando imágenes de los satélites Landsat 5, 7 y 8, con 30 m de resolución espacial. En el programa ArcMap 10.3, el uso de la terra se agrupó en seis clases: formación florestal, plantación florestal, formación natural no florestal, agricultura, áreas sin vegetación y agua. Para todo el municipio, se calcularon las métricas de paisaje CA (cobertura del suelo) y PLAND (proporción de cobertura del suelo) para las seis clases de uso del suelo. Se llevó a cabo un análisis de la cobertura florestal a partir de una zona de amortiguamiento de 5 km alrededor del área urbana y se calcularon cinco métricas más de área, borde y forma. Se utilizó la versión 5.2.0.16 del software Patich Analyst para calcular las métricas del paisaje. Las clases que más se destacaron en términos de tamaño de área fueron agricultura (93,962.07 ha; 80.27%), formación de bosque (15,682.97 ha; 13.40%) y áreas sin vegetación (5,220.63 ha; 4.46%). Los mayores incrementos proporcionales se registraron en la plantación de bosques (0,11 a 1,27 ha), agua (0.02 a 0.05 ha) y áreas sin vegetación (2.17 a 4.45 ha), mientras la agricultura ha perdido área (85.73 a 80.27 ha). Se ha producido un aumento de las áreas boscosas en los últimos 30 años desde la aparición de fragmentos pequeños y morfológicamente frágiles; además, con el aumento de área urbana, aumentan los conflictos con los remanentes forestales más cercanos.

Resumen Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar la relación entre las características biofísicas de las áreas verdes con la reducción de la propagación del ruido. El estudio se realizó en dos áreas verdes ubicadas en la ciudad de Curitiba, Paraná, Brasil. En las parcelas de 600 m2 se recogieron los niveles de contaminación acústica junto con la vegetación y la caracterización física de cada sitio. Se definieron los valores de contaminación atenuada y se compararon con las características físicas. Los valores de ruido atenuado variaron de 1,7 a 14,8 dBeq. La vegetación demostró ser eficiente en la atenuación de la contaminación acústica, demostrando que el sitio con menor cantidad de vegetación obtuvo los valores más bajos de atenuación acústica. La densidad y el número de árboles mostraron correlaciones muy fuertes con los valores de decibelios bloqueados. La combinación de factores como la forma y el tamaño de los fragmentos de árboles con las condiciones del terreno (pendiente del terreno y cobertura) influyó en la propagación del ruido.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the biophysical characteristics of green areas with the reduction of noise propagation. The study was conducted in two green areas located in the city of Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. Noise pollution levels along with the vegetation and the physical characterization were collected in each plot site of 600m2. The attenuated pollution values were defined and compared with the physical characteristics. The attenuated noise values varied from 1.7 to 14.8 dBeq. The vegetation proved to be efficient in attenuating noise pollution, showing that the site with the least amount of vegetation obtained the lowest noise attenuation values. The density and number of trees showed very strong correlations with the blocked decibel values. A combination of factors such as the shape and size of the fragments with the terrain conditions (terrain slope, and coverage) influenced the noise propagation.

Resumen El objetivo fue evaluar la influencia de la contaminación acústica en los paisajes visuales y sonoros del Jardín Botánico y del Parque São Lourenço en Curitiba, Brasil. Los datos se recolectaron en tres transectos (A, B y C), que representan diferentes densidades de vegetación. La calidad visual del paisaje se caracterizó mediante un método directo de valoración de los elementos del paisaje. La calidad visual se clasificó como buena, media o mala. Para el análisis de sonido se utilizaron dos decibelímetros INSTRUTHERM, modelo DEC-470, con precisión de 1,5 decibelios. Los paisajes evaluados en el sitio C mostraron variación en la calidad del paisaje de 1 a 21.57, con las mejores cualidades de atenuación visual y de ruido. El análisis de correlación entre la calidad visual del paisaje y la cantidad de ruido bloqueado mostró un fuerte coeficiente de correlación (0,65; p = 0,0001). Los paisajes con mejor calidad visual dan como resultado una mayor cantidad de ruido atenuado, principalmente debido a la presencia de vegetación.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate both the landscape’s visual and sound quality influence on propagating noise pollution in the Botanical Garden and the São Lourenço Park in Curitiba, Brazil. Data were collected in three transects (A, B, and C), representing different vegetation densities. Landscape visual quality was characterized through a direct method for valuing landscape elements. The visual quality was classified as Good, Average, or Bad. We used two INSTRUTHERM DEC-470 decibel meters with 1.5-decibel precision for the sound analysis. The landscapes evaluated at site C showed variation in the landscape visual quality from 1 to 21.57, with the best visual and noise attenuation qualities. Correlation analysis between the landscape visual quality and the amount of blocked noise showed a strong correlation coefficient (0.65; p = 0.0001). Landscapes with better visual quality resulted in a greater amount of attenuated noise, mainly due to the presence of vegetation.

Resumo As espécies exóticas invasoras alteram a biodiversidade, a estrutura da paisagem, as funções e serviços do ecossistema e os habitats das espécies nativas da flora e fauna. Análises multicritério em ambiente de Sistemas de Informação Geográfica (SIG) podem ser usadas para avaliar a vulnerabilidade das áreas verdes urbanas à invasão biológica por essas espécies. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar parâmetros naturais e antrópicos relacionados à vulnerabilidade à invasão biológica por Hovenia dulcis Thunb. em Curitiba, Paraná, Brasil. Uma avaliação de vulnerabilidade foi feita nas áreas verdes urbanas de Curitiba com menores graus de antropização. Foram considerados seis fatores relacionados à presença de Hovenia dulcis: nove pontos de ocorrência da espécie; altitude e declive (métricas topográficas); e área, forma e isolamento entre fragmentos de habitat (métricas da paisagem). O método Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) foi utilizado para definir pesos para cada fator. A vulnerabilidade foi avaliada como muito baixa (0 - 0.2); baixa (0.21 - 0.4); moderada (0.41 - 0.6); alta (0.61 - 0.8); e muito alta (0.81 - 1). As análises espaciais foram realizadas no software QGIS® 3.10. Os pontos de ocorrência da espécie representaram 45% do modelo gerado, seguidos pelos fatores paisagísticos, principalmente a forma dos fragmentos (17,69% do modelo). Nas áreas verdes urbanas selecionadas, 995,15 ha corresponderam à classe de alta vulnerabilidade e 839,54 ha à classe de vulnerabilidade moderada à invasão pela espécie. As regiões oeste, sul e norte da cidade são as mais vulneráveis, e também as mais urbanizadas. O Parque Passaúna é a área verde mais suscetível à invasão pela espécie principalmente devido à forma irregular, mais propensa ao efeito de borda. Curitiba tem uma alta vulnerabilidade à invasão biológica por Hovenia dulcis em suas áreas verdes, principalmente naquelas localizadas em regiões mais urbanizadas.

Abstract Alien invasive species alter biodiversity, landscape structure, ecosystem functions and services, and habitats of native species of flora and fauna. Multicriteria analysis in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment can be used to evaluate the vulnerability of urban green areas to biological invasion by these species. The objective of this research was to investigate natural and anthropic parameters related to the vulnerability to biological invasion by the Hovenia dulcis Thunb. in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. A vulnerability assessment was done in the Curitiba’s urban green areas with lower degrees of anthropization. Six factors related to the presence of Hovenia dulcis were considered: nine points of species occurrence; altitude and slope (topographic metrics); and area, shape, and isolation between areas (landscape metrics). The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to define weights for each factor. The vulnerability was assessed as very low (0 - 0.2); low (0.21 - 0.4); moderate (0.41 - 0.6); high (0.61 - 0.8); and very high (0.81 - 1). Spatial analyses were performed on QGIS® 3.10 software. The occurrence points of the species represented 45% of the generated model, followed by the landscape factors, mainly the shape of the fragments (17.69% of the model). Within the selected urban green areas, 995.15 ha corresponded to the high vulnerability class, and 839.54 ha to the moderate vulnerability class to invasion by the species. The western, southern, and northern parts of the city are the most vulnerable, which are also the most urbanized. Passaúna Park is the green area most susceptible to invasion by the species mainly due to its irregular shape, most susceptible to the edge effect. Curitiba has a high vulnerability to biological invasion by Hovenia dulcis in its green areas, especially in those located in more urbanized regions.

Resumen El objetivo de esta investigación fue desarrollar el modelo de distribución potencial de A. angustifolia y verificar la relevancia del bosque urbano de Curitiba para su conservación. El modelo de distribución potencial fue desarrollado considerando variables meteorológicas y topo-edáficas, utilizando el algoritmo MaxEnt®. El mapa de distribución potencial se clasificó en tres clases de adecuación ambiental: alta, media y baja. Las variables de pedología y pendiente fueron las más representativas de la distribución de especies. El modelo mostró una precisión del 93,4%. La región norteña de Curitiba y las áreas a lo largo de los cursos de agua tienen las mayores adecuaciones ambientales para A. angustifolia. De las áreas verdes analizadas, 72,94% tienen adecuación media y o alta para la especie. Se recomienda la creación de áreas protegidas en las regiones indicadas por el modelo, con el objetivo de favorecer la conservación de A. angustifolia y reducir la presión sobre sus poblaciones en el ambiente urbano.

Abstract The objective of this study was to develop the potential distribution model of Araucaria angustifolia and verify the relevance of Curitiba’s urban forest for its conservation. The potential distribution model was developed considering meteorological and topo-edaphic criteria through the MaxEnt® algorithm. The potential distribution map was classified into three classes of environmental adequacy: high, medium, and low. Pedology and declivity were the criteria most representative of the species distribution. The model presented an accuracy of 93.4%. The northern region of Curitiba and the areas along watercourses presented the highest environmental adequacy for A. angustifolia. A total of 72.94% of the analyzed green areas have medium and/or high adequacy for the species. We recommend creating protected areas in the regions indicated by the model, aiming at favoring the conservation of A. angustifolia and reducing pressures on their populations in the urban environment.

SUMMARY: Araucaria angustifolia is one of the main species of the Mixed Ombrophilous Forest and has been threatened by extinction. Additionally, a low number of regenerating individuals can be seen in forest remnants. For these reasons, this study aimed at evaluating the functional structure of Canoas River Basin (state of Santa Catarina, Brazil) using landscape ecology metrics, and at verifying whether or not the proximity between remnants is compatible with this species displacement of the main dispersers. Thus, a landscape structure analysis was performed using metrics of area, shape, edge and connectivity of habitat fragments based on satellite images. Landscape metrics were related to maximum distances of displacement of dispersers and to effective dispersion distance based on a genetic estimate derived from secondary data. Results indicate that Canoas River Basin has natural vegetation cover in 19.6 % of its territory and is highly fragmented. A total of 80.8 % of the fragments have an area smaller than 50 ha. The proximity between patches concerning the mean displacement of dispersers (87 m) is zero for 100 % of fragments. The proximity is zero in 43.5 % landscape, considering the effective seed dispersion based on the genetic estimate of dispersion distance. Therefore, the connectivity between fragments is very low, which may justify the fact that this species is often not found in the regenerating components of forest inventories.

RESUMEN: Una de las principales especies de los bosques mixtos, Araucaria angustifolia, está en peligro de extinción y también tiene un bajo número de individuos en regeneración. Por estas razones, el objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar, a través de métricas de ecología del paisaje, la estructura funcional de la cuenca del río Canoas, SC, Brasil, y verificar si la proximidad entre los remanentes es compatible con el desplazamiento de los principales dispersores de la especie. Para esto, se utilizaron métricas de área, forma, borde y conectividad de fragmentos de hábitat, utilizando imágenes satelitales. Las métricas del paisaje se relacionaron con las distancias máximas de desplazamiento de los dispersores y con la distancia de dispersión efectiva de la estimación genética, derivada de datos secundarios. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la cuenca del río Canoas tiene una cubierta de vegetación natural en el 19,6 % de su territorio y está altamente fragmentada, con un 80,8 % de los fragmentos con un área menor a 50 ha. La proximidad entre los remanentes en vista del desplazamiento de los dispersores (87 m) es nula para el 100 % de los fragmentos. Considerando la medida efectiva de dispersión de semillas a partir de la estimación genética de la distancia de dispersión, en el 43,5 % del paisaje la proximidad es nula. Se puede concluir que la conectividad entre fragmentos es muy baja, lo que puede justificar el hecho de que la especie a menudo no se encuentre en los componentes regenerativos de los estudios forestales.

Resumo A modificação da paisagem e a fragmentação do habitat tornaram-se grandes temas de pesquisa, uma vez que são consideradas ameaças graves para a biodiversidade. Considerando o histórico de perturbação da área do Parque Estadual do Jalapão (PEJ), dado sua característica de Unidade de Conservação (UC) de proteção integral inserida no bioma Cerrado, o objetivo desta pesquisa é atualizar o mapa de uso e cobertura do solo dessa UC e analisar as métricas que quantificam a conectividade do habitat e a fragmentação da ecologia da paisagem para o ano de 2015, tendo como base o mapa de uso e ocupação do solo do ano 2000. Para elaborar o mapa de uso do solo do PEJ de 2015, utilizou-se a cena 221/67 (órbita/ponto) de 8 de agosto de 2015 do satélite Landsat 8, sensor OLI, por abranger toda a área de estudo e por não ter cobertura de nuvens. No processamento digital das imagens foram realizadas a correção radiométrica, a pré-classificação e a associação das classes de uso do solo, e, posteriormente, classificação supervisionada por meio de interpretação visual. Para verificar a precisão do mapa foi calculado o coeficiente de Kappa, cujo valor foi de 0,92. A partir do mapa atualizado foram realizados os cálculos de índices de ecologia da paisagem referentes à área, tamanho, forma, borda e proximidade dos fragmentos. Os procedimentos foram realizados no software SIG ArcGIS 10.4 por meio da extensão gratuita Patch Analyst 5.2. Com base nos mapas de uso e cobertura do solo e nos índices de ecologia da paisagem, pode-se constatar que houve mudanças na paisagem. Quanto às métricas, conclui-se que a UC se encontra fragmentada, apresenta 564 fragmentos e possui alta heterogeneidade espacial e forma complexa e irregular em razão dos valores de MPS, PSCoV e MSI.

Abstract Landscape modification and habitat fragmentation have become major research topics. They are considered serious threats to biodiversity. The disturbance history of the area of Jalapão State Park (Parque Estadual do Jalapão - PEJ) was analysed given its characteristic as a Conservation Unit (CU) of integral protection inserted into the Cerrado biome. Thus, the objective of this research is to update the map of land use and cover of this CU and analyse the metrics that quantify habitat connectivity and fragmentation in the landscape ecologyfor 2015 based on the land use map for 2000. In order to plot the PEJ's 2015 map of land use, we used the scene 221/67 (orbit/point) of August 8, 2015, from the Landsat 8 satellite, OLI sensor, since it covered the entire study area and did not present cloud cover. In the digital image processing, radiometric correction, pre-classification, and association of classes of soil use were performed. Subsequently, a supervised classification was performed through visual interpretation. To verify map accuracy, the Kappa coefficient was calculated. Its value was 0.92. From the updated map, calculations of landscape ecology indexes were performed considering area, size, shape, border, and proximity of fragments. The procedures were performed using the software GIS ArcGIS 10.4 and the free extension Patch Analyst 5.2. Based on the maps of land use and cover, and indexes of landscape ecology, it is possible to verify that there were changes in the landscape. As for metrics, it can be concluded that the CU is fragmented (564 fragments) and has a high spatial heterogeneity, a complex form, and an irregular shape due to values of MPS, PSCoV and MSI.

Resumo Ocotea odorifera é uma espécie arbórea ameaçada de extinção devido ao processo de urbanização que ocorre na região de Curitiba, Paraná. Assim, visando o planejamento de áreas de conservação que mitiguem os efeitos ocasionados pelas pressões antrópicas sobre as suas populações, torna-se necessário o conhecimento sobre a sua distribuição geográfica. Portanto, o objetivo da pesquisa foi desenvolver um modelo de distribuição geográfica potencial de Ocotea odorifera e verificar a região do município de Curitiba mais relevante a sua conservação. Primeiramente, foram georreferenciados indivíduos da espécie encontrados no município, enquanto a modelagem de distribuição potencial da espécie foi realizada por meio do algoritmo Maxent®, sendo utilizados como variáveis ambientais os dados meteorológicos e topo-edáficos. O teste de Jackknife indicou as variáveis mais relevantes ao modelo e a Área Sob a Curva (AUC), a sua acurácia. O mapa de distribuição potencial foi sobreposto a um arquivo shapefile contendo a delimitação de 80 áreas verdes protegidas com remanescentes de vegetação. Ao todo, 12 pontos de ocorrência da espécie foram localizados, em sete locais. O mapa gerado pelo Maxent indicou que a região centro-norte de Curitiba apresenta as maiores probabilidades de ocorrência de Ocotea odorifera, correspondendo a 19.550,30 ha. O modelo explicou 96,3% da distribuição da espécie na área de estudo. A contribuição relativa e o teste de Jackknife indicaram que a variável mais relevante ao modelo foi pedologia. Em futuros plantios da espécie deve-se considerar a pedologia durante o seu planejamento, além de outras características específicas do solo em cada local de plantio.

Abstract Ocotea odorifera is an endangered tree species, threatened by the urbanization process that occurs in the region of Curitiba, Paraná state, among other factors. Thus, the knowledge about their geographical distribution becomes necessary to plan protected areas that mitigate the effects caused by anthropic pressures on their populations. Therefore, the objective of this research was to develop a model of the potential geographic distribution of Ocotea odorifera and to verify the region of the municipality of Curitiba more relevant to its conservation. First, we georeferenced individuals of the species found in the municipality, while the model of potential distribution of the species was performed using the Maxent® algorithm, using meteorological and topological data as environmental variables. The Jackknife test indicated the most relevant variables to the model and the Area Under the Curve (AUC) indicated its accuracy. The potential distribution map was superimposed on a shapefile file containing the delimitation of 80 protected green areas with fragments of native vegetation. As a whole, 12 occurrence points of the species were located in seven sites. The map generated by Maxent indicated that the central-northern region of Curitiba presents the highest probability of Ocotea odorifera occurrence, corresponding to 19,550.30 ha. The model explained 96.3% of the species distribution in the study area. The relative contribution and the Jackknife test indicated that the most relevant variable to the model was pedology. In future plantings of the species, the pedology should be considered during its planning, as well as other specific characteristics of the soil at each site.

SUMMARY: The aim of this article was to evaluate the likelihood of failure of trees protected by law located at Curitiba squares, Paraná, through the adaptation of the tree risk assessment proposed by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Among all 14 trees analyzed, 11 types of defects were identified in the trunk, with the predominance of canker and codominant stems; 12 in the crown, with the presence of dead and broken branches; and seven in the root system, where root lifting was the most recurrent problem. The evaluation of the tree risk assessment indicated that eight of the 14 trees demonstrated moderate risk (57.14 %), presenting 5 to 12 defects; five had a low risk (35.71 %), with one to seven defects; and one was categorized as a high risk of failure (7.14 %), which had 17 defects. Half of the trees presented the risk assessment associated with defects in the trunk, two of them with problems in the crown, and two others had more defects in the root system. These results highlight the importance of monitoring and maintaining the quality of urban forests, a fact that contributes to the safety and well-being of the population that visit Curitiba squares.

RESUMEN: El objetivo de este artículo fue evaluar la probabilidad de daño de los árboles protegidos por la ley ubicados en las plazas de Curitiba, Paraná, mediante la adaptación de la evaluación de riesgo de árboles propuesta por la Sociedad Internacional de Arboricultura (ISA). Se identificaron 11 tipos de defectos en el tronco, con predominio de tallos cancerosos y codominantes; 12 en la corona, con la presencia de ramas muertas y rotas; y siete en el sistema de raíz, cuya elevación de raíz fue el problema más recurrente. La evaluación de la evaluación del riesgo de árboles indicó que 8 de los 14 árboles mostraron un riesgo moderado (57,14 %), presentando de 5 a 12 defectos; cinco tuvieron un riesgo bajo (35,71 %), con uno a siete defectos; y uno se clasificó como un alto riesgo de fracaso (7,14 %), que tenía 17 defectos. La mitad de los árboles presentaron la evaluación de riesgo asociada con defectos en el tronco, dos de ellos a problemas en la corona y otros dos tenían más defectos en el sistema radicular. Estos resultados resaltan la importancia de monitorear y mantener la calidad de los bosques urbanos, un hecho que contribuye a la seguridad y el bienestar de la población que visita las plazas de Curitiba.

RESUMO A floresta urbana gera um microclima mais agradável para o ser humano, tanto no seu interior como nas áreas externas próximas. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar a influência que as diferentes tipologias de floresta urbana exercem no seu entorno imediato, destacando quantitativamente as diferenças entre o microclima interno e externo a essas áreas. Para isso foram selecionadas diferentes formas de floresta urbana na cidade de Curitiba-PR: Remanescente Florestal, Área Verde Antiga, Área Verde Moderna, Arborização de Ruas e Árvore Isolada. A influência no entorno imediato foi analisada com o método de transectos móveis, percorrendo 500 m de distância de em uma rua adjacente à área selecionada, com coleta de dados a cada 50 m. Os resultados indicam diferenças estatísticas significativas entre o microclima interno e externo às tipologias de floresta urbana. Ao longo do transecto percorrido, a temperatura foi em média 2,3°C mais elevada do que no interior das tipologias de floresta urbana, a umidade relativa foi menor em 4,6 unidades e a velocidade do vento 0,2 m/s maior. A maior diferença de temperatura e umidade relativa entre o ambiente interno e externo foi encontrada no Remanescente Florestal e a menor na Arborização de Ruas. Conclui-se que as diferentes tipologias de floresta urbana exercem influência significativa no microclima do entorno imediato.

ABSTRACT The urban forest generates a microclimate more pleasant for the human being, in its interior as in the near external areas. Thus, the main goal of this research was to analyze the influence that the different typologies of urban forest exert in their immediate surrounding, highlighting quantitatively the differences between the internal and external microclimate to these areas. For this, areas of different types of urban forest were selected in the city of Curitiba-PR: Remaining Forest, Old Green Area, Modern Green Area, Street Trees and Isolated Tree. The influence in the immediate surrounding was analyzed with the mobile transect method, traveling 500 m away from a street adjacent to the selected area, with data collection every 50 m. The results indicate statistical differences between the internal and external microclimate to the typologies of urban forest. During the transect, the temperature was on average 2.3 ° C higher than in the interior of the urban forest typologies, the relative humidity was lower in 4.6 units and the wind velocity 0.2 m / s higher. The greatest difference in temperature and relative humidity between the internal and external environment was found in the Remaining Forest and the smallest in the Street Trees. It is concluded that the different typologies of urban forest exert a significant influence on the immediate surrounding microclimate.

RESUMO A região da Estepe Gramíneo-Lenhosa no Paraná, também conhecida por Campos Gerais, cobre aproximadamente 20.000 km2 do Estado, compondo uma zona fitogeográfica com vegetação de campos limpos adaptada a ambientes relativamente secos. Apresenta elevado perigo de incêndios, especialmente após o inverno, quando a massa de material morto e as condições meteorológicas favorecem a propagação do fogo. O presente estudo teve por objetivo caracterizar o material combustível fino dessa vegetação. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida na Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) Caminho das Tropas, localizada no município de Palmeira - PR. As coletas de material foram feitas em 35 pontos distribuídos em uma área de 25 hectares, sendo realizadas 4 amostragens durante um ano nas estações do outono, inverno, primavera e verão. Foram consideradas 3 classes de material para análise: vivo, morto e miscelânea. A carga média de material fino obtida foi de 10,985 Mg.ha-1 (megagrama por hectare) a qual se encontra dentro da faixa de valores obtidos por diversos autores para a vegetação de campos, que pode variar de 4,90 Mg.ha-1a 13,80 Mg.ha-1. O teor de umidade manteve-se praticamente constante para o material vivo nas 4 estações do ano, enquanto para as demais classes houve variações, sendo mais acentuadas para a estação do verão. Quanto à proporção de material vivo, morto e miscelânea em relação ao total de material coletado em cada estação, o material morto manteve-se estável, enquanto o material vivo e a miscelânea apresentaram diferenças estatísticas significativas. Os resultados obtidos contribuem para o conhecimento do material combustível da região da Estepe no Paraná, sendo subsídio para a avaliação do comportamento do fogo e para a prevenção e combate a eventuais incêndios que venham a ocorrer nessa vegetação.

ABSTRACT The Grassy-Woody Steppe region of Paraná, also known as “Campos Gerais”, covers approximately 20,000 km2 of the state, composing a phytogeographic zone with vegetation adapted to relatively dry environments. It presents high danger of fires, especially after the winter, when the dead fuel accumulation and the meteorological conditions favor the propagation of fire. The present study aimed to characterize the fine fuel material of this vegetation. The research was developed in the Private Natural Heritage Reserve “Caminho das Tropas” (coordinated UTMs 620334 and 7196739), located in Palmeira municipality, Brazil. Fuel collections were done in 35 points distributed in an area of 25 hectares, being carried out 4 samplings during a year in the seasons of autumn, winter, spring and summer. Three classes of fuels were considered for analysis: live fuel, dead fuel and miscellaneous. The average load of thin fuels obtained was 10,985 Mg.ha-1 (megagramm per hectare), which is within the range of values obtained by several authors for field vegetation, which can vary from 4.90 to 13.80 Mg.ha-1. The moisture content remained practically constant for living fuels in the four seasons of the year, while for the other classes the variations were more accentuated in the summer season. For the proportion of live fuel, dead fuel and miscellaneous in relation to the total fuel collected at each season, the dead fuel remained stable while the live fuel and the miscellaneous presented significant statistical differences. The results contribute to the knowledge of the fuel material of the Paraná steppe region, as well as, for the fire behavior evaluation to prevent or control fires that may occur in this vegetation.

RESUMO Para se investigar as funções ecológicas que as praças desempenham como áreas verdes urbanas, esta pesquisa teve o objetivo de inventariar e caracterizar a vegetação utilizada no paisagismo das praças de Curitiba - PR. Todas as espécies que ocorrem em 32 praças da cidade foram identificadas e quantificadas. Os resultados apontaram que foram encontradas 141 espécies, distribuídas em 58 famílias. Daquele total, 60,3% são arbóreas e 56,7% são de procedência exótica. A espécie que aparece em maior número de praças é Axonopus compressus (grama-são-carlos), presente em 96,9% dos casos. Entre as espécies arbóreas, Ceiba speciosa (paineira) é a de maior ocorrência, aparecendo em 46,9% das praças. Rhododendron simsii (azaleia) apresentou o maior número de exemplares, com 438 indivíduos. É importante considerar o número de exemplares, a diversidade de espécies, e suas características para que os benefícios ecológicos proporcionados pelas praças possam ser garantidos.

ABSTRACT To investigate the ecological functions that squares play as urban green areas, this research was designed to inventory and characterize the vegetation used in the landscaping of the squares of Curitiba-PR state. All species occurring in 32 squares in the city were identified and quantified. Results show that 141 species were found, belonging to 58 families. Of this total, 60.3% of species are of arboreal life and 56.7% are of exotic origin. The species that appear in more places is Axonopus compressus (grama-são-carlos), present in 96.9% of cases. Between tree species, Ceiba speciosa (paineira) is the most frequent, appearing in 46.9% of the squares. Rhododendron simsii (azalea) had the highest number of individuals, with 438. It is important to consider the number of individuals, the diversity of species and their characteristics so that the ecological benefits provided by these squares can be guaranteed.

ABSTRACT The main goal of this study was to determine the radius and intensity of the influence that different urban forest typologies exert on their surroundings. Thus, three distinct areas were selected for each type of urban forest: Remaining Forest, Old Green Area, Modern Green Area, Street Trees and Isolated Trees. The influence of these typologies on the surrounding microclimate was determined by mobile transects, collecting data every 50 m from a total route of 500 m in an adjacent street. In general, the influence radius of the urban forest on its surroundings was 200 m, while the Remaining Forest typology reached 250 m. On average, the influence intensity of urban forest at a distance of 50 m was 0.66ºC, at 100 m it was 0.45ºC, at 150 m it was 0.34ºC, and at 200 m it was 0.30ºC, but each typology varied. All microclimate results were more pronounced in summer. We concluded that the urban forest exerts a significant climatic influence on its surroundings, regardless of the typology.

RESUMO A melhoria microclimática é frequentemente apontada como um dos benefícios gerados pela arborização urbana. No entanto, ainda são poucos os estudos que abordam quantitativamente essa questão. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi quantificar a diferença microclimática entre ruas arborizadas e sem arborização, para cada estação do ano e arranjo paisagístico. Para isto foram selecionados três locais, contendo um trecho de rua com e sem arborização. Cada local apresentava diferentes espécies compondo os arranjos paisagísticos: Tipuana tipu, Handroanthus chrysotrichus e Lafoensia pacari com Parapiptadenia rigida. Para o monitoramento das variáveis meteorológicas, uma miniestação da marca Kestrel® permaneceu na rua arborizada e a outra na rua sem arborização. A coleta desses dados foi das 9 às 15 horas, com intervalo de monitoramento de 1 minuto, repetida nas quatro estações do ano, com início no inverno de 2011. As variáveis microclimáticas analisadas foram: temperatura, umidade relativa e velocidade do vento. Os resultados indicaram que a maior diferença de temperatura foi observada na estação do verão (2,5°C) e a menor no inverno (1,2°C). Para a umidade relativa, as diferenças ficaram entre 6,4% (primavera) e 5,6% (inverno) e para a velocidade do vento a maior diferença foi encontrada na estação do inverno (0,17 m/s). O arranjo paisagístico que utiliza o plantio com Tipuana tipu nos dois lados da rua, plantadas de modo a fazer com que suas copas se entrelacem e formem um túnel, é a melhor escolha para se buscar um microclima mais agradável em todas as estações do ano.

ABSTRACT Microclimate improvement is frequently stated as one of the benefits generated by urban forestry. However, there are still few studies that quantitatively approach this issue. The goal of this study was to quantify the microclimatic difference between streets with and without trees, for each season and landscaping type. For this, three locations were chosen. Each location showed different species composing landscaping types: Tipuana tipu, Handroanthus chrysotrichus, and Lafoensia pacari with Parapiptadenia rigida. A Kestrel® mini station was placed on a street with trees and another one on a street without trees. The daily period for collecting this data was from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with monitoring intervals of 1 minute, repeated during the four seasons of the year, beginning in the winter of 2011. The microclimatic variables analyzed were temperature, relative humidity and wind speed. The results indicated that the streets with trees always had lower temperatures and greater relative humidity values than the streets without trees. The greatest temperature difference was observed in the summer (2.5 oC) and the smallest one in the winter (1.2 oC). For relative humidity, the differences were between 6.4% (spring) and 5.6% (winter), and for wind speed the greatest difference was found in the winter (0.17m/s). Landscaping that uses Tipuana tipu on both sides of the street, planted in a way such as to make their canopies entangle and form a tunnel, is the best choice for a more pleasant microclimate in all seasons of the year.

RESUMO A forma da copa das árvores pode ser utilizada como variável para compreender fatores de influência sobre o crescimento, principalmente as ações de manejo e as inter-relações com estruturas urbanas, mas também os riscos potenciais que podem existir. Nesta pesquisa objetivou-se avaliar o desequilíbrio da projeção das copas de árvores plantadas nas calçadas de três cidades brasileiras, a fim de determinar a existência e o tipo de assimetria e o ângulo de copa em relação ao eixo central do tronco. Mensurou-se o comprimento de quatros raios de projeção de copa, em cada árvore, comparando-os por meio do teste de Kruskal-Wallis. Cada copa foi enquadrada em uma de quatro classes de assimetria, a fim de caracterizar a uniformidade de projeção em relação ao eixo central do tronco. Dimensionou-se a distância entre o eixo central do tronco e o centroide da copa, com respectivo ângulo formado, a fim de caracterizar o desequilíbrio de projeção da copa. Constatou-se diferença significativa entre os raios de projeção de copa, com maiores valores para o raio de copa voltado para a rua e menores valores para o raio de copa voltado para a calçada. Nas três cidades avaliadas houve a predominância de indivíduos enquadrados na classe 3 de assimetria, a qual representa o modelo com as maiores deformações nas copas das árvores. Para a cidade de Bonito constatou-se o menor ângulo médio de projeção do centroide, com distinções entre as espécies amostradas.

ABSTRACT Tree crown form can be used as a variable to the comprehension of factors that influence tree growth, mainly maintenance practices and interactions with urban structures, but also the potential risks that can exist. In this research, we aimed to evaluate crown projection unbalance of trees planted on sidewalks of three Brazilian cities, in order to determine the existence and the sort of asymmetry and crown angle formed in relation to the central axis of the trunk. We measured the length of four crown projection radii and compared them by means of Kruskal-Wallis Test. Each one of the crowns was framed in one of the four asymmetry classes to verify the uniformity of projection in relation to the central axis of the trunk. We also determined the distance between central axis of the trunk and crown centroid, with respective angle formed, in order to characterize the unbalance of crown projection. There was a significant difference among crown projection radii, with greater values to radius faced to street and the smallest ones faced to buildings. In the three cities evaluated there were a predominance of trees framed on class 3 of asymmetry, which represents the model with the greatest deformations on crown of trees. We observed the lowest mean angle of crown centroid projection with distinctions among species sampled in Bonito.
